Anyone want to potty train a 2 1/2 year-old? Any takers?

October 16, 2011 - Kristy MacKaben
Could someone please come and potty train my child? I seriously feel like enrolling Johnny in daycare for a few months just so someone else can potty train him. I am trying, but I really feel like I'm not cut out for it this time around. Julie was pretty much completely potty trained by her second birthday. Johnny is almost 2 1/2, and there is no light at the end of the tunnel that I can see. Our day is filled with dirty diapers, wet underwear, soiled spots on the rug and the occasional tinkle in the potty followed by a treat. He unwrapped his very own potty at Christmas. (Yes. That was almost an entire year ago!) I wanted to introduce potty training early because that worked with Julie. The idea, in my head, was to get him started before he became a stubborn and defiant toddler. Maybe that would have worked if life with two kids wasn't so busy and chaotic. I have no idea how people with three, four, five kids, or moms of multiples potty train at all. That is way beyond my comprehension. When you're running your older child to preschool or activities, it's next to impossible to potty train a little one. So, I found myself just putting it off and putting it off. So, here we are. A lot of Johnny's little friends are potty trained at this point, though I know many boys aren't trained until after 3. I'm trying to get serious about it by having him wear big boy underpants while we're at home, giving him treats when he goes, and encouraging him to just try. Some days he seems to get it, but other days, it's like we have made no headway at all. Any advice for a mom tired of "accidents" all over the house? What worked for your boys? I have heard it helps to have them "stand". He doesn't seem to get that concept...
