Daylight Savings fluke?

November 6, 2011 - Kristy MacKaben
This is the first year in six years I didn't wake up cursing the idiot who invented Daylight Savings. Once you enter the world of parenthood you no longer look forward to "fall back" as another hour of sleep. It doesn't take long to figure out that kids do not respect the beauty of sleeping in an extra hour. They have no idea what time it is when they wake up, nor do they care that the clock says 5 a.m., instead of 6 a.m. I have dreaded every "fall back" since the first year when Julie was just two months old. It never fails. Every time this year Julie and now Johnny wake up before 6 a.m., and sometimes even before 5 a.m., and this sometimes lasts a month or so, until their little bodies finally regulate themselves. Well, I'm happy to report that my early risers slept until 7 a.m. today, the first day of Daylight Savings time, which technically means they slept until 8 a.m. That is nothing short of a miracle in this house. Of course it could have been a fluke, or just a result of the kids being tired and worn out. We were in Baltimore this weekend and we slept at my sister's house. We were busy all day, skipped naps and went to bed a little later. So, these were undoubtedly contributing factors to the "sleeping in." I'm just hoping tomorrow I don't hear a peep until well past 6. Even so, I still think Daylight Savings should be outlawed. I won't be happy until we never have to turn our clocks again!
