November 8, 2011 - Kristy MacKaben
It's sad when you almost feel embarrassed to wear a Penn State t-shirt in public. In the wake of horrific Penn State scandal fans are reeling. (Just in case you need a recap, former PSU defensive coach, Jerry Sandusky has been accused of sexually molesting young boys.)What was once a respected and celebrated university has an ugly wound that might not heal any time soon. Though I didn't grow up in this area or graduate from Penn State, I was a fan of the college and the football program, and so was Scott. We would be proud if Julie and Johnny attended Penn State. Now, we have our doubts, as a result of the unbelievable turn of events. If we feel that way, being slightly distanced from the situation, it's no wonder long-time fans and area natives are up in arms. I know of people who started going to PSU football games as little kids and have continued supporting the team for years. These people are beyond devastated. They are cancelling tickets to sporting events, calling for the heads of university leaders who covered up the abuse scandal and they're donating money to support groups for abused children. People who love Penn State feel abandoned, misled and they aren't sure how they can go on supporting an organization like this. I can't say I blame them. So, what are your thoughts on the events that came to light this week? Will you continue to support the university? What should happen next? I'm attaching a link to the most recent article.
