You gotta have faith

November 22, 2011 - Kristy MacKaben
The one thing I learned today? Never doubt your kids. About a month ago, I was worrying that Julie might have been placed in a remedial reading group at school. She came home talking about working with the special reading teacher in a small group every day. I thought the extra help meant she was falling behind. Even as Julie seemed to really be making strides in reading, I couldn't help but be concerned. Well, today was teacher conference day. Let's just say Scott and I were pleasantly surprised. Apparently we have nothing to worry about. Not only is she not in the remedial reading group, but she's actually in the highest reading group. Overall, she is doing awesome in every aspect of school from reading, writing and math to behavior, attitude and social skills. Scott always says we really have to believe our kids are super stars, and then they will believe it themselves and become confident, successful little beings. My dad has the same sort of attitude. He always believed we were the best no matter what, almost to a fault. Despite this, I always had a problem with confidence, but I would hate for those insecurities to rub off on Julie and Johnny. I'm determined to have faith in my kids and believe in them no matter what.
