A pleasant surprise

February 19, 2012 - Kristy MacKaben
In the six years we have lived in Altoona, we have never set foot in Galatic Ice...until today. Sure. Our kids are young, but I have friends whose kids are ice skating by 2 years old and playing ice hockey by 3. So, age is no excuse. It really could be because Julie is such a wild card. You really never know which Julie you're going to get. She's so unpredictable in new situations, so we purposefully steered clear of a situation involving Julie balancing on ice skates. When a good friend posted pictures on Facebook of her son, (who is Johnny's age) ice skating like a pro, we knew it was time to take the kids. With nothing else to do today, we bundled up the kids, expected the worst, hoped for the best and laced up the ice skates. And, it was one of the most fun family days we have had in a while. Julie was a real trooper, and was skating by herself by the end of the afternoon. It was hard to pry her off the ice when it was time for the Zamboni ice cleaning. Johnny, though completely wobbly on ice skates, loved it, and wouldn't let his poor, tired Daddy off the ice. Scott and I were both exhausted after more than two hours. The kids still wanted to stay, so we promised a stop at Meadows, and all was good.
