Little artists

March 30, 2012 - Kristy MacKaben
Julie couldn't have been prouder as she showed off her artwork last night for Baker Elementary School's art show. During the entire month of March, artists from the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art worked with Baker students and exposed them to different mediums of art. The culmination was the school's art show where all grades displayed their artwork for parents to ogle and admire. Everything from self portraits to splatter paintings and sculptures were displayed throughout the school. After showing off her pieces we headed back to the classroom where the kids were asked to write about their favorite creation. Julie's favorite medium was "pointalism"---a collection of dots which forms a picture. Her favorite piece was a sailboat in the sea. The art show was especially meaningful to Julie, considering Julie is constantly drawing, painting and crafting at home. She considers herself an artist and she's always excited to show off her finished products. Though we won't be sending her work to a museum any time soon, it's great to see her excited and passionate about something-----even if that means crayons, bits of paper and glue sticks are constantly underfoot at our house.
