Do your kids believe in the Easter Bunny?

April 3, 2012 - Kristy MacKaben
Staring at the five-foot-six rabbit tonight while the kids got their pictures taken, I really wondered how the heck Julie or any kid over six for that matter, still believes in the Easter Bunny. I mean he has wire-rimmed glasses and a polyester vest. He walks, hugs, gestures and poses for pictures, but doesn't talk. The whole thing is just odd and not very believable. Maybe kids believe because the whole concept is so off-the-wall, how could it not be real. Besides, every adult they know encourages this crazy tale. Like Santa Claus, it's a weird, widespread conspiracy, in which all of us who practice Easter and Christmas, or at least the secular aspects of the holidays, lie to our children about these benevolent creatures who give gifts. I kind of get the whole Santa Claus thing. But the big bunny who hides eggs and brings gifts, in my opinion has very little to do with the real meaning of Easter, though I know pastors and philosphers like to draw correlations. Obviously we adults keep this thing going because it's fun and we have good memories as kids. I guess it can't hurt, though a couple years from now, when my daughter is completely crushed after some brat told her the truth about Santa and the Easter Bunny, I'll probably have a different take on the whole thing. So, do your kids still believe in the Easter Bunny? What does he bring them for Easter?
