What did you do today?

September 23, 2012 - Kristy MacKaben
When Julie was in preschool, I pretty much gave up asking about her day. An unenthusiastic "nothing" was a typical response to my "What did you do in preschool today sweetie?" Once and a while I was rewarded with a head nod when I asked whether she had a good day. I figured that was pretty much normal for preschoolers. So, I wasn't prepared for chatty Johnny's monologue after preschool each day. I know he sits next to Connor on the carpet during story time every day. Tommy is Johnny's best friend and sometimes Charlie takes away blocks. Last week Joshua hit the teacher, which wasn't very nice and he "got in trouble." Johnny painted colorful balloons with his fingers, his teacher read a book about a mouse who likes to hide and they talked about shapes. They hold hands in the hallway, and if they don't have to go to the potty, they sit against the wall and wait while their friends go. I always wanted to be a fly in Julie's preschool classroom so I could get a little glimpse into her world. With Johnny I feel quite satisfied with my daily update. I barely need to utter the words "So...what did you do today?" before I'm greeted with a plethora of details and information. I can't help but love feeling like I'm part of his preschool mornings.
