Happy Anniversary to my love

October 2, 2012 - Kristy MacKaben
Fifty-eight minutes after Julie was born, Scott and I celebrated our second anniversary. Dazed and exhausted, we kissed and wished each other "Happy Anniversary", knowing full well our anniversary "day" would never be the same. We spent our first anniversary happily frolicking around a quaint little town on the Eastern shore of Maryland. There was bike riding and kayaking, romantic dinners, and lots of holding hands and snuggling. That was the last anniversary we ever spent away just the two of us. It just doesn't seem right to go anywhere when our daughter celebrates her birthday the day before. As I spent 22 hours in labor with Julie, I was praying she would come out before our anniversary. I know that probably sounds terribly selfish and silly, but I truly think it's important for couples to have their own special day and to celebrate it like it means something. Last week Scott and I celebrated our 9th anniversary. We had gone out the week before to a romantic dinner, but since my parents are visiting, we didn't feel right leaving them alone on our actual anniversary. So, my mom cooked us a great meal. Of course Scott had lots of sweet surprises in store...a dozen pink roses delivered to the door, a super cute card that made me cry and a beautiful Vera Bradley bag (love those bags!) But, my absolute favorite part of the night was the goofy trivia game Scott made up in honor of our anniversary. Everyone had to answer questions about our wedding, and various events about our lives in the 9 years since. (Even Julie and Johnny answered a few.) It was cute and touching how Scott remembered little details and it was wonderful to laugh and reminicse with my parents. Though our anniversaries haven't been extravagant, they have all been special and I hope it stays that way. We are already planning for our big 10th anniversary next year. Any suggestions??
