To be a Mom is the Greatest Gift

May 3, 2016 - Rachel Seiler
Let me start by saying, I’m proudly celebrating my second Mother’s Day. My daughter was only 2 weeks old when I celebrated my first Mother’s Day. Now that I’ve been a mom for a full year, I’m going to give you my personal review:

Motherhood is the most amazing thing I’ve ever experienced! Sweeter than a first kiss, a bigger rush than scuba diving, more rewarding than my job, an indescribable euphoria….I absolutely love it!

My husband and I used to dread the coming of Mother’s Day. We struggled with infertility for years and dealt with this holiday by celebrating “Happy Un-Mother’s Day”. We’d waste a ridiculous amount of money on unpractical things (retail therapy) followed by a gluttonous meal and pitty-party at our favorite restaurant with our favorite waitress, and revise our “project baby” plan for yet another year.

Unfortunately, many couples feel this way about Mother’s Day. The ones still dreaming of the day they see that positive pregnancy test, the ones anxiously waiting to adopt, and the ones struggling with the loss of a child. To them, this day can be a painful reminder of their personal struggles. I’m sharing this with you not to make you sad this Mother’s Day, but to give you a little different perspective and appreciation for your role we’re celebrating. When you’re frustrated and exhausted from the daily grind, just be reminded that there are many women who would give anything in the world to be in your shoes. Cherish these moments, hug your kids a little tighter, and know how truly lucky you are to be a mom.
